ABOUT ME

Hey there, it’s me, Markus!

Welcome to my colorful cosmos, where a pen and a single line are enough to whisk you away to another dimension. Imagine grabbing a marker, closing your eyes, and – voilà! – when you open them again, there's a character so lively it seems ready to leap off the canvas. That’s my kind of magic: One-line drawings, or as I call them, “Oneliners.” Don’t worry, I keep my eyes wide open while drawing!

My studio is like Orko's hat: a place where magic happens, and unexpected wonders spring to life from the most ordinary things. Just as Orko conjures marvels with a flick of his wrist, I create worlds with a single line. Some might see me as a cross-media artist. I consider myself more of a sorcerer, transforming blank canvases and screens into portals to new dimensions with acrylics, markers, or a click of the mouse.

Since 2005, I’ve dedicated myself to the “Oneliners.” My characters are a bit like me: unique, slightly mad, and always ready for an adventure. Most of my originals live on canvas, but some have made their way into my online shop as stylish posters and printed canvases – for anyone wanting to sprinkle a bit of Markus flair in their home.

Speaking of adventures, my journey hasn't been confined to the quiet corners of a studio. Way back in 2006, while I was cutting my teeth as a freelance OnAir Designer for cool TV channels like MTV in Berlin, I joined forces with some incredibly talented mates to kick off QualityLovers. Picture us less like a formal artist collective and more like a band of street art and graffiti rebels, well-known in the scene for our bold strokes and vibrant tags. QualityLovers became our way to channel the raw energy and creativity of the streets, transforming cityscapes from Berlin to Rio and beyond.

What inspires me? Honestly, a bit of everything! From graphic design to Cubism, from Egon Schiele to contemporary painters like Viagrafik, Enorm and Herakut. I love it when lines dance and forms transform into something unexpected. Proportions? Who needs them when you can have fun!

I once studied Graphic Design and 2D-3D Animation – yes, I actually have a diploma, hard to believe, right? Since then, I’ve been living and working here and there; mainly near Frankfurt, but I’ve also been hanging out in Rio de Janeiro for the past few years. What can I say, I love the sun and football!

Over the years, I’ve built up a fantastic fan base. You guys are the best! Without your support, I’d just be that crazy guy standing in front of a canvas with a pen in hand, mumbling to himself. With you, I’m that crazy guy standing in front of a canvas with a pen in hand, mumbling to himself – but with people who support my art!

So, take a look around, make yourselves at home, and let’s have some fun together. Art is meant to be shared, loved, and sometimes, to make us wonder: “What the heck did I just draw?”

See you soon and enjoy,
Markus aka Hurd
